The last few months have been busy for the iPhone jailbreakers . Most of them are working on a new untethered jailbreak utility for iOS 7 while still fielding questions about why there won’t be one for iOS 6.1.3. Ex Chronic Dev team member, P0sixNinja has been especially busy.
Following on from a series of tweets regarding exploits for iOS 7, the hacker then went on to claim that he had been working on something special. He hinted that we should be thinking “much bigger than a jailbreak”, sparking rumors of a new bootrom jailbreak.
This fire was then fueled by a tweet in which he announced his dislike of Sn0wbreeze, Redsn0w and 6.1.3 and declared it was time to “get this #openjailbreak off the ground”. Now, many people once again read into this that he was talking about a bootrom jailbreak. This rumor was shot down in flames when another hacker, Musclenerd, publicly hauled P0sixninja over the coals for leading his followers astray regarding a bootrom exploit. P0sixninja wholeheartedly agreed, in response, that he wasn’t going down that path at all.
So, what was he talking about then ?
Today, we have some clarification, from the man himself, as to what this openjailbreak is all about. In a nutshell, it is NOT A Jailbreak Utility, it will be an Open Source Website, one that will be up and running in the very near future. It will be similar to GitHub and will be a jailbreak development site, a place where developers can brainstorm ideas and submit code, rather than an actual utility.
At the moment, there is no firm news on when it will be running, just as there is no updated news on when the next jailbreak will be released. All we can say is, don’t expect too much before iOS 7 is released to the public, probably in September.
