Bajaj’s Small Car to compete Tata’s Nano.

India’s second largest two-wheeler company Bajaj Auto had announced its collaboration with auto giant Renault & Nissan last year to build an ultra-low cost compact light commercial vehicles for Indian consumers.The expected price of this car is around Rs1.2lakh ($3000). Bajaj’s four-wheeler has been developed on a new platform called LITE.

The prototype of the low-cost car is expected to be launched by 2010.Bajaj Auto claims that the new small car will set a benchmark in terms of fuel economy and low cost maintenance. The anatomy of Bajaj’s small car will stress on maneuverability for ease in intra-city transportation.

    I think that more and more of these types of cars will be made and will be used. For city commuting these compact cars could well be a perfect solution. With good fuel usage and the small price they might well be a must-have vehicle as a second car or even as a first car. They won’t suit everyone but they will suit many.
